Poor Kerning

Poor Kerning... it is everywhere! I see it everywhere and I just want to physically push the letters apart or pull them together. The example I am using is from my Dance studio. I love my studio with all my heart but our logo is really horrible... I know someone probably just made it in word and used the curve tool that does not accurately kern. In "Academy" the A, C, A, D, all need to be pushed apart and in "Dance" the C, E, need to be pushed apart. Then "Coopersburg" the B, U, should be pushed apart a little bit.

Bad Typography

This week we needed to find bad typography. I found that there is more bad type then there is good type. I picked this poster out of the sub b/c i think it has all the qualities of bad type. The kerning in the date/address/time is horrible, some of the letters are basically on top of each other and others are way too far apart. The title of the poster has poor kerning and who ever made this sign ruined the integrity of the type by making it so bold and 3D looking.

Good Typography

I picked this image because I really like the "scripty" font used. It's welcoming and a very friendly. I feel like this is a good short phrase that describes kutztown very well. If I were an incoming student I would feel invited and would want to continue to browse the KU site.

Hand Rendered Type

I really liked this Luba Lukova poster because its spelled backwards but you can still read it, and the "lukova" is definitely hand rendered. I don't know of any font that looks like this poster. The image its self is not very good but the poster is great. Who ever did this poster has some wonderful 'pen tool' skills.

Historically Influenced Typography

I thought this photo emulates "Historically Influenced Typogrpahy" because it's a college diploma. I feel like a college would use this font to feel more historic and to make there graduates feel more regal. I also chose this image because the font used to write "De Sales University" has some great swashes on it!

Naturally Occurring Letterforms

I found this really difficult to do for some reason. I just thought I couldn't find an appropriate "natural occurring letterform"... So I just settled on this one. I plopped my bag on my bed on the midst of everything else that was there and I noticed that the strap to my bag made a "U". Not too exciting but I figured this was better then some of the other letters I found.
